Bachhaus Eisenach

Bach House Eisenach

Johann Sebastian Bach was born in Eisenach, Thuringia, on March 21, 1685. In 1907, the New Bach Society opened the Bach House here as the first Bach Museum. It was given the mission “to collect and preserve everything that concerns Johann Sebastian Bach and his life’s work.” Today it is one of the largest musicians’ museums in Germany. While Bach’s biography and life in Bach’s time are presented in the old “Ackerbürgerhaus” built in 1456, the sculptural new building opened in 2007 is all about Bach’s music. Approximately 400 original exhibits are displayed on 600 square meters, introducing visitors to the world and music of Johann Sebastian Bach. Fascinating: the “Bach Cup”, Bach’s theological library, the autograph, the Componir Room, the relics from the excavation of Bach’s bones, the floating “Bubble Chairs”, the “Walk-in Music Piece”. Every hour there is a small live concert for visitors in the instrument hall. The garden invites you to linger after the visit.
